General strikes bring capitalist economies to a halt and demonstrate that no profit can be made without the working class – the real wealth creators! They are hugely feared by the ruling class who do everything they can to prevent such shows of solidarity.
This meeting will examine the role of the general strike in history. The Trade Union Council (TUC) Congress passed a motion late last year which agreed to ‘consider the practicalities’ of a general strike of all UK unions against the austerity currently bringing poverty & despair to an increasing number of people both in and out of work.
