We need councillors who fight cuts, privatisation & austerity & we need an alternative to the pro-business parties – from Labour to the ConDems
Gloucestershire has seen food bank usage double in a year – it has quadrupled in Cheltenham
Unemployment is up across the entire county
Homelessness is on the increase
Academy schools are in turmoil
None of the local Tory MPs would even discuss the food bank crisis in parliament. They continue to speak about the recovery, even as the poverty gap widens.
WE BELIEVE THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE AND WE ARE PREPARED TO FIGHT FOR IT
We want to show people suffering from austerity that they are not alone – TUSC AGAINST Cuts was set up by Bob Crow and is an alliance of socialists and trade unionists backed by the Rail Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) Union to offer a platform for campaigns and an alternative at the ballot box. WE NEED A NEW WORKING CLASS PARTY!
In the space of a week the labour movement has lost the trade union leader & socialist Bob Crow, and the veteran socialist Tony Benn. The former launched TUSC, No2EU – yes to democracy/workers rights, and built a strong and militant union. The latter, while endorsing Bob Crow’s initiative No2EU in its TV launch broadcast and defending socialism and nationalisation, opposing the expulsion of the left from the LP, remained true to the Labour Party (this has not stopped some of the more honest Labour politicans making some hostile comments this week). Bob Crow saw Labour as just one of three pro-business parties. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM BOTH AND DISCUSS THEIR LEGACY ON SATURDAY (22nd March) 2.30-3.00pm at Barton Community Centre, 199 Barton St, Gloucester.
Part of Bob Crow’s legacy is TUSC Against the Cuts.
From 3 pm hear:
TOM BALDWIN, former TUSC mayoral candidate in Bristol
Local council candidates
The candidate for the European election for No2EU Yes to Workers Rights
— all discuss with us about local and national issues that concern you, and most importantly – what can be done! Why does UKIP catch the protest vote, and HOW CAN COUNCILS FIGHT THE CUTS? FIGHTING FOR A BETTER FUTURE – e.g. What do we want for Gloucestershire? Which issues should we campaign on?
Then we`ll take a look at the recent inspiring victory of American Socialists in Seattle, where 100,000 peopled voted out the Democrats and elected a candidate committed to a decent minimum wage and socialist policies.
HELP US ORGANISE THE FIGHT BACK – THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE
